I’m a 33 year old mother of three beautiful girls, stay at home mom and photographer. I’m also an Air Force veteran, and have been lucky enough to be able to stay at home and take care of my kids since my separation from active duty in 2004. Now that my children are a little older I am ready for a new career as an EMT.
I fell in love with lifting a year and a half ago. I have always tried to stay fit throughout my life, but seemed to fall short with my goals because I really didn’t know the proper way to exercise and eat. I’ve always wanted that six pack stomach (who hasn’t? ) and yet it never became a reality until this year. After having three kids and at age 32!! Crazy right?
After I started going to the gym and using the weight room instead of the treadmill… I actually started to see a change. My body was developing some shape and I was getting stronger. I was hooked and I was determined to finally reach some real goals. In January 2015 I decided to compete in my very first show and hired a prep coach to help me. Since then, I have learned so much about my body, how to eat properly and have pushed myself hard in the gym.
This year has been one of my happiest years in a long time because of my focus on my health and training. For a long time I struggled with depression because I felt like I didn’t have a purpose in life and I wanted to become someone with purpose and drive. I wished I could do something bigger and better than I’ve ever done. I don’t like feeling stagnant, and I need goals in my life to work towards. The gym is now my therapy where I can walk in feeling tired, down or bummed out- and I can leave feeling on top of the world. I become a better person every time I train. My goal is to just keep pushing and get better. That in itself is purpose… and not only does it change me on the outside, but heals me on the inside. I now have confidence and self worth that I didn’t have years ago.
I don’t just do this for me, but for my kids and family. I want to show them that no matter what you are struggling with in your life- you have the power to change it. Everything that is difficult in life requires mental strength, and to succeed- you have to keep pushing through.
